Yogic Living: Motherhood

Yogi Bhajan loved teaching women’s courses because he knew that, generally speaking, women adapt to change more readily.

His vast collection of teachings for women include relationships, marriage, health and beauty, self-esteem and values, childraising and motherhood.

Motherhood is our current focus. Here are a few of his timeless quotes that capture the essence of his teachings on this subject:

The purest thing in the world is the heart of the mother, the heart-chakra, the center of the mother. It can move God. It can move the Universe. It can cause an effect beyond limitation. The heart of the mother is the greatest power of Infinity ever given to any finite being.

By construction, the fulfillment of a woman is motherhood—and motherhood does not mean that she gets pregnant and delivers a baby. In her manufacture, her makeup—patience, grit, tolerance and grace are there in her. They have to be in her because she is made to be a mother, a potential mother. If you understand her total behavior, you will understand her motherhood. Her motherhood is service, her motherhood is sacrifice, her motherhood is relationship. When she knows motherhood, she is fulfilled.

A child is born to you to help him face his karma in this life. A child is not your ego; not a pet dog in the house; not a substitute for love. A child has nothing to do with that. A child is born to you so that you can prepare him to face time unto Infinity.

If you want to give your son or your daughter strength, the only thing you can give them is your experience as divine. They can look to you as divine—the feeling, the urge, the reality.
